Assistant Childcare Supervisor: REGULAR

8:45am to 12:00pm; Mon - Fri; 16.25hr/week

Overview

Under the direction of the Childcare Supervisor, provides childcare for the children of students in the LINC/ESL/LBS programs.

Role and Responsibilities

Assist in the planning and implementation of the daily program; arrange for the set up of interest areas and prepare needed materials; develop general housekeeping tasks and classroom routines.

Assist in the maintenance of up-to-date records, e.g. attendance logs, health records, registration, video and photograph release, program plans, snack schedules, fire procedures.

Under the direction of the Supervisor, supervise and develop a culturally sensitive curriculum that includes the cultures of the children enrolled and the mainstream Canadian culture.

Ensure that all children are guided in their physical, social, cognitive, linguistic and emotional development and that the program adheres to LINC/Ontario Works (OW) child care policies and guidelines with a focus on language development.

Assist with supervision of children and take responsibility for their overall care and safety in the absence of the Supervisor; follow up on child absenteeism and assist in the recruitment of children and families.

Encourage parents to be involved in the program through orientation activities and through ongoing participation and communication; provide ongoing support and guidance to parents on child care and parenting issues.

Work directly with parents, volunteers, supply staff and student teachers and act as a resource person to them; provide input in child care student evaluations.

Purchase consumables and keep accurate petty cash records for submission to the Child Care Supervisor.

Attend Continuing Education staff meetings, child care staff meetings, workshops or conferences as required.

Ensure all health and safety standards are met; ensure any suspected child abuse is reported immediately to the Child Care Supervisor/Coordinator.

Knowledge of LINC/OW child care policies and guidelines and language development. Knowledge of relevant Board policies and procedures, Adult Education including Adult Literacy Programs, Board procedures and operations; organization and time management skills required to prioritize work and juggle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities with short timelines; interpersonal, and communication skills required to exchange and clarify information; oral communication and listening skills required for understanding and communicating effectively with diverse communities; understand and respond to inquiries using tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with parents and students; presentation skills to assist in delivering instruction; maintenance of all relevant certifications. Mathematical ability to manage a budget. Sensitivity to individual needs of children in a multiethnic, multilingual program. Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates are required.

This knowledge would normally be obtained through completion of an Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalency from a recognized community college plus two years experience working in a multicultural ECE program.

Pay Expectations

$23.54 to $25.22 per hour
