The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is the largest school board in Eastern Ontario and offers students and parents a world of choice for learning. Our nearly 150 schools offer a wide range of programs to promote learning excellence and meet the individual needs of students, parents, and the community at large. Our schools are teaching communities where principals, vice-principals, teachers and support staff nurture student well-being and challenge students to achieve their best.

Casual Library Technician List

The casual list is comprised of qualified individuals who are available to work on an as-need basis, during peak periods or to replace absent staff

Library Technicians support our elementary and secondary school libraries, helping to ensure that students and teachers have access to available resources during school hours.

Some duties include (but are not limited to) cataloging and classifying books and resource material; signing books in and out; maintaining the library database and keeping track of materials inventory; helping students and teachers locate books and materials; recommending purchase of and purchasing age-appropriate resources for the library.

We have several schools that have moved from traditional library setting to a Makerspace model - a place where kids learn, share and create things. It is a place where young students have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects.

Casual Rate of Pay:

$18.26 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation

Qualifications

Completion of community college diploma in Library Information or an equivalent program is required . Applicants currently enrolled in a Library Information Program may also be considered;

1 to 2 years library work experience (ie public library, records/archives management, etc)

Knowledge and understanding of library methodologies and tools.

Ability to operate an automated library information system.

Reference and cataloging skills.

Love of reading, and enjoy being around kids

Experience working in a Library or similar organization

Experience working in a makerspace environment is an asset.
