The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is the largest school board in Eastern Ontario and offers students and parents a world of choice for learning. We are seeking creative, dynamic, committed educational leaders

to join the following initiative:

Educational Assistant

100%, Term (10 month work year)

$27.45 to $30.59 per hour

Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. The position involves dealing with confidential information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability. Responsibilities are varied, in collaboration with teaching and other professional staff, and include: supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities; participation in pool programs, academic support, implementing special programs, support to deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises and stretches.

Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school aged special needs children. Equivalent programs must be assessed by People, Culture and Leadership staff. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is required. The successful candidate will have also completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training. Please ensure that you include copies of your diploma(s) and/or certificates that are applicable to the qualifications of an Educational Assistant.

Required Skills and Abilities

• DSW/ CYW or equivalent

• Knowledge and understanding of Brain Trauma, its impacts on processing information and emotional regulation.

• Experience implementing CHEO plan, as well as Physio & OT goals

• Behaviour modification and BMS assets

• Experience working with students with wheelchair

• Experience working with nonverbal students

• CPR/ first aid an asset

• Yard duty

Who can apply:

In accordance with the Student Support Personnel's Collective Agreement, O.S.S.T.F. District 25, and further to Articles 23.04 and 23:07 qualified regular part-time employees are eligible to increase their status and apply to part-time term vacancies if it does not interfere with their regular assignment, subject to Article 13:03; (i.e. 30 minutes between assignments or travel time, whichever is greater, without impact on current part-time hours of work). Regular full-time employees are not eligible to apply for term vacancies

NOTE: As per the SSP Collective Agreement, Casual EAs currently in terms for the 2024/2025 school year that ends June 27, 2025 are not eligible to apply unless to increase status.

Salary:

If a term assignment is less than the school year: $27.45 per hour + 4% vacation pay and eligibility for benefits

If the term assignment is for the full school year: $28.54 per hour and enrollment in the Board's term benefit plans (subject to terms of Collective Agreement)

Effective September 1, 2024, new regular

and full year term Educational Assistants who are hired with at least three (3)

years of related experience, as determined by the Employer, shall be placed at

Step 3 of the salary grid.

This provision has no retroactive effect.
