Thank you for considering the Ottawa Catholic School Board as a potential employer.

Under the supervision of the Manager of Continuing Education, the instructor is responsible for the instruction of learners in English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and experience, and possession of a TESL Ontario recognized qualification to determine their ability to teach ESL to adults in either the LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) or English as a Second Language programs.

Qualifications:

Certification in teaching English as a Second Language (TESL Ontario Certification, OCELT with) or TESL Ontario PLAR equivalency. Note: For some roles, applicants hired without an OCELT designation must commit to completing a TESL Ontario accredited training program or do PLAR one year once teaching in the program.

Experience working with adults learning a second language in a publicly funded program.

The ability to work collaboratively as a team member in a multicultural environment.

Demonstrated ability to be sensitive and respectful when working with clients from a range of economic, cultural, social and and linguistic backgrounds / traditions

Ability to apply an equity lens to their work in the program

Experience teaching language online and in-person

The following are considered an asset:

PBLA and/or Avenue.ca trained

Prior work experience in other sectors, e.g. business, computers, etc. an asset

Experience as a CLB assessor, an asset

Ability to speak an additional language, an asset

Rate of Pay: $33.90 per hour plus vacation pay
