Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Mental Health and Well-Being Lead the Mental Health Worker (1.0 FTE) will provide psychoeducation groups to students relating to stress management, emotion regulation, social skill development and building resilience. In addition to the direct service with students, providing professional learning opportunities to school staff and parents will be expected. The Mental Health Worker will work with school teams to support the mental health needs of students at the Kindergarten to Grade 6 level as well as at the intermediate and high school level (i.e., classroom presentations, group work and seeing students individually at the Tier 2 level if needed). Data collection will be included in this role to evaluate the impact of services.

The Mental Health Worker will be an integral member of the SESS team and will contribute within a multidisciplinary framework (understanding all three Tiers of interventions in association to our OCSB Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being strategy). The Mental Health Worker is required to support and recommend best mental health practices at the Tier 1 and 2 level while promoting capacity across our school system.

Qualifications:

A member of the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers, the College of Psychologists of Ontario or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario

Has or is working towards a Masters degree in a related field to this position

Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds and group facilitation

Ability to collect, track and analyze data

Experience giving presentations and providing learning opportunities to staff, students and parents

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams as well as independently

Solid interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills

Proven problem solving and decision making ability

The following would be considered an asset:

A.S.I.S.T and /or SafeTALK training/ SMH-ON Prepare, Prevent; Respond: Suicide Prevention / Life Promotion Literacy for School Staff

Training in various School Mental Health Ontario Evidence-Based Trainings

IIRP Restorative Practices Training

Trauma Informed Training (Individual and System Based Approaches)

Familiarity with Google applications

There are 2 full time (1.0 FTE) temporary positions available with an annual salary range of $81,639 - $88,555. This salary would be prorated to the duration of the assignment.

The start date for both positions would be approximately December 2, 2024 and anticipated end date of December 10, 2025.
