Director of Finance

The Palliser School Division has an immediate opening for a motivated, energetic, team-oriented Director of Finance. This position will oversee financial operations and provide insight into key financial decisions.

The Director of Finance will develop and deliver timely, effective and engaging communications to support key stakeholders within the Palliser School Division. The successful candidate will be quality-minded, responsive and dedicated to Palliser School Division’s best practices of communication.

The Division:

The Palliser School Division is a public-school jurisdiction located in southern Alberta. Palliser’s geographical area stretches from Coaldale to Calgary, Alberta. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Division currently has approximately 9,400 students. Palliser serves students in ECS through Grade 12 in 14 community schools; 11 faith-based alternative schools, ten of which are in Calgary on nine separate campuses; one sports-based alternative school, four alternative programs for Low German-speaking Mennonite families; 17 Hutterian colony schools; homeschooling, online and international programs. Palliser employs approximately 1,400 staff members in full-time, part-time and sub/casual positions.

What You Will Do:

The Director of Finance will report directly to the Associate Superintendent of Business Services;

Oversee accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable/receivable and general ledger functions;

Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards;

Responsible for preparations with Auditors;

Collaborate with schools/departments to create and manage their respective budgets;

Responsible for implementing and maintaining financial policies and procedures;

Prepare and present financial reports.

The Successful Candidate will have:

Proficiency with financial management software’s;

Excellent leadership and team-building skills;

Strong understanding of financial regulations, tax laws and reporting requirements;

Experience and knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of audiences with both finance and non-finance backgrounds;

The ability to demonstrate unwavering ethical conduct, integrity, loyalty, respect, and honesty in all interpersonal relationships. The ideal candidate will consistently uphold these values, fostering trust and collaboration within our division.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administrations or a related field.

Hold an active Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation

Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible experience in school business administration, corporate, governmental and/or related administrative activities

Hours of Work:

35 hours/week;

Monday - Friday;

This is a full-time, 12-month position with responsibilities extending beyond the traditional school calendar

Salary/Benefits:

The position offers a salary range of $135,000 - $150,000, based on experience and education.
