The Peace River School Division is seeking applications for a Full-Time (1.00 f.t.e.) Temporary School Social Worker.
The School Social Worker will be responsible for addressing the social, behavioural, and emotional factors which impede a student's school performance. This position will provide support to students and their families where there are complex issues that may require counseling, community agency involvement, crisis involving family support as well as situations involving mental health concerns.
This position will commence as soon as possible and continue until June 27, 2025. The School Social Worker position will responsible to the Director of Learning Services.
Position will remain open until a suitable candidates are secured.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Respond to emergency or crisis situations
Assist students with behavioural, social and/or emotional issues within the classroom and school setting; specifically students on the Social Worker's Priority Caseload
Manage and maintain student records and caseload
Directly refer, liaise and provide consultation with students, school personnel, parents, and community agencies as required
Provide individual counseling
Provide short/long-term case management services to individual students
Make referrals and coordinate services with community agencies
Collaborate with support personnel within the school
Participate in case conferences with school learning support teams
Requirements:
4 year Bachelor Degree in Social Work.
Must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Social work experience working with children/youth experiencing social/emotional difficulties in an educational setting or social service agency would be an asset.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require.
Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy.
This position involves travel to the Division’s schools; therefore, the successful candidate must have a valid driver's license.
The Division offers a comprehensive benefits package with an annual salary range: $59,000 - $73,300.
