Pembina Hills School Division and École Barrhead Elementary School invites applications for the position of Temporary Educational Assistant Mentor. This role is an element of the divisions Education Plan. The primary purpose of the role is to develop and sustain capacity of support staff working with Tier 2 and 3 students, and in particular, those with challenging behaviors associated with mental and emotional conditions and or issues that affect learning. Specifically, the purpose of the Educational Assistant Mentor is to expand the skill set of Educational Assistants in schools to work with identified students and their teachers. Duties to commence December 2, 2024 and will end June 27, 2025. Hours of work will be Monday-Friday at 7.5 hours/day following the school calendar.

The School - École Barrhead Elementary School

Located approximately 120 km northwest of Edmonton, École Barrhead Elementary School (BES), is a K-6 school offering English and French Immersion.

The following specific experience or skills would be an asset to the role:

Experience providing one-on-one assistance to students in schools is a requirement. Formal training as an Educational Assistant, Child & Youth Worker, Social Work, Psychology or a related field would be an asset.

Experience in supporting students with sensory processing issues

Skills, experience and training in “Zones of Regulation,” “SIVA” or other nonviolent crisis intervention, and “Solution Focused Counselling

Experience working with students with complex communication needs

Knowledge of trauma informed practice and/or experience of working with individuals with trauma
