QUALIFICATIONS
* Baccalaureate Degree or Certificate in a health related area, preferably in a clinical field.
* Current licensure or registration in good standing with applicable regulatory body
* Five (5) years of professional experience in a Health Care setting
* Clinical knowledge and ability to provide clinical support related to complaints resolution for Medical Services
* Experience working with and interacting with patients and families in a health care setting.
* Ability to engage and build collaborative relationship with health care professionals, patients, families and leaders
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability
* Demonstrated experience in employee and labour relations
* Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
* Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills

POSITION SUMMARY

The Advisor Medical Services shall be accountable to the Chief Medical Officer and is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, evaluation and operation of medical services in Prairie Mountain Health. This will include such things as, facilitating service delivery in conjunction with facility Care Team Managers. This position is also responsible for Medical Staff complaints management, including critical incidents, within Prairie Mountain Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

In consultation with the Chief Medical Officer and in accordance with Prairie Mountain Health Board By Law - Medical Staff:

  1. Responsible for the administration and operation of medical services in Prairie Mountain Health, working collaboratively with Site/Program Leads, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and Directors/Managers of various departments/ disciplines,
  2. Participates with strategic planning as it relates to medical services
  3. Responsible for the recruitment and retention of Clinical and Physician Assistants in Prairie Mountain Health.
  4. Responsible for monitoring reports and performance management of Clinical/ Physician Assistants,
  5. Provides accurate and consistent counsel and interpretation of the Physician and Clinical Assistants of Manitoba (PCAM) Collective Agreement, and provides support to medical staff, directors, managers, and other staff members in this regard.
  6. Liaise with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and Shared Health with regard to the Clinical/Physician Assistant program.
  7. Interpret, prioritize and investigate complaints in collaboration with appropriate colleagues; ongoing communication with complainants and medical staff;
  8. Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to medical services as they pertain to medical staff.
  9. Assists with physician recruitment and retention
  10. Assists in the planning and development of a sustainable medical workforce for Prairie Mountain Health.
  11. Participation in portfolio/regional team structure.
  12. First point of contact for medical education programs, processes, and initiatives.
  13. Development and maintenance of functional relationships with other departments/programs in Prairie Mountain Health.
  14. Working closely with the Physician Recruitment & Retention Coordinators on recruitment efforts for the rural communities as well as Brandon in all specialties.
  15. Assist in the Collaboration with University of Manitoba - Faculty of Medicine and the Physician Recruitment & Retention Coordinators to ensure the continuation and advancement of medical education in Brandon and throughout Prairie Mountain Health.
  16. Assist in the Collaboration with the Physician Recruitment & Retention Coordinators and the University of Manitoba - International Medical Graduate Program around program structure, planning and ongoing evaluation.
  17. Promotion of positive public relations.
  18. Operationalizing of Prairie Mountain Health’s Vision, Mission and Values statements.
  19. Promotion the quality dimensions of access, safety, effectiveness and satisfaction in the provision of medical/clinical services.
  20. In consultation with the CMO and Site/Program Leads, investigation, interview and follows up as necessary on all patient and staff related complaints related to medical staff.
  21. Facilitate resolution of complaints and queries
  22. Other duties as assigned
