QUALIFICATIONS
* Registered and licensed to practice in Manitoba with a Bachelor of Nursing (BN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
* Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba standards, Scope of practice documents, Regulated Health Professionals Act, PHIA, Mental Health Act code of ethics
* Applicant must possess two year equivalent FT experience in working with vulnerable populations (i.e. Mental Health, Addictions/Recovery, and homelessness populations)
* Knowledge of and experience in working with individuals engaged in addictions recovery and treatment
* A minimum of one (1) year experience with individual and group counselling; minimum one year nursing experience; proven knowledge of current nursing theory and practice.
* Valid C.P.R. certificate
* Successful completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
* Successful completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
* Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position (recovery oriented practice, trauma informed, harm-reduction philosophy, clinical assessment skills, and a client centered practice within a nursing scope)
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
* Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
* Ability to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and within interdisciplinary team


POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Supervisor of the In-House program, or the Supervisor of Community-based programs, and working within an integrated multi-disciplinary team, nurses are required to provide services to clients engaged in addiction recovery and treatment. Clients will be engaged in community based OAT treatment or residing in a co-ed treatment facility. This position requires a commitment to a client-centred philosophy and approach to the development, provision and support of programs and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assessment of client’s medical needs upon admission.
  2. Implements the planned medical care of clients including all aspects of nursing procedures and therapies.
  3. Responds to medical emergencies.
  4. Ordering, preparing and monitoring the use of prescribed and over the counter medications.
  5. Maintains medical portions of client files.
  6. Networking and liaising with the medical community regarding client’s pre-treatment, treatment and post treatment medical needs.
  7. Develop and deliver health related education programs.
  8. Individual and group counselling.
  9. Responds to crisis situations including suicide ideation.
  10. Meets administrative requirements with respect to correspondence, statistics, activity reports, attendance.
  11. Training non-medical employees with the self-administration medication process.
  12. Provides professional nursing services for clients with complex and unpredictable health needs.
  13. Communicate respectfully and positively with clients and staff and presents self in an approachable and friendly manner
  14. Respond to client requests and crises in a responsible, timely and flexible manner
  15. Balance the needs of clients, other staff persons and those of the organization.
  16. Commitment to on-going professional development activities and engagement in reciprocal learning experiences with colleagues and direct supervisor
  17. Commitment to personal and professional ethics, integrity and responsibility
  18. Ability to manage one’s own emotions and strong feelings; maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances; think clearly and stay focused under pressure.
  19. Ability to match treatment services to client’s unique circumstances.

  22. Establishes and maintains professional working relationships and regular communication with community and other related organizations relevant to client’s needs
  23. Within the MOST program: works collaboratively with addiction’s physician
  24. Other duties as assigned
