Description
* Registered and licensed to practice in Manitoba with a Bachelor of Nursing (BN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
* Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba standards, Scope of practice documents, Regulated Health Professionals Act, PHIA, Mental Health Act code of ethics
* Applicant must possess two year equivalent FT experience in working with vulnerable populations (i.e. Mental Health, Addictions/Recovery, and homelessness populations)
* Knowledge of and experience in working with individuals engaged in addictions recovery and treatment
* A minimum of one (1) year experience with individual and group counselling; minimum one year nursing experience; proven knowledge of current nursing theory and practice.
* Valid C.P.R. certificate
* Successful completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
* Successful completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
* Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position (recovery oriented practice, trauma informed, harm-reduction philosophy, clinical assessment skills, and a client centered practice within a nursing scope)
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
* Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
* Ability to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and within interdisciplinary team
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor of the In-House program, or the Supervisor of Community-based programs, and working within an integrated multi-disciplinary team, nurses are required to provide services to clients engaged in addiction recovery and treatment. Clients will be engaged in community based OAT treatment or residing in a co-ed treatment facility. This position requires a commitment to a client-centred philosophy and approach to the development, provision and support of programs and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assessment of client’s medical needs upon admission.
- Implements the planned medical care of clients including all aspects of nursing procedures and therapies.
- Responds to medical emergencies.
- Ordering, preparing and monitoring the use of prescribed and over the counter medications.
- Maintains medical portions of client files.
- Networking and liaising with the medical community regarding client’s pre-treatment, treatment and post treatment medical needs.
- Develop and deliver health related education programs.
- Individual and group counselling.
- Responds to crisis situations including suicide ideation.
- Meets administrative requirements with respect to correspondence, statistics, activity reports, attendance.
- Training non-medical employees with the self-administration medication process.
- Provides professional nursing services for clients with complex and unpredictable health needs.
- Communicate respectfully and positively with clients and staff and presents self in an approachable and friendly manner
- Respond to client requests and crises in a responsible, timely and flexible manner
- Balance the needs of clients, other staff persons and those of the organization.
- Commitment to on-going professional development activities and engagement in reciprocal learning experiences with colleagues and direct supervisor
- Commitment to personal and professional ethics, integrity and responsibility

- Within the MOST program: works collaboratively with addiction’s physician
