Description
* Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing preferred
* Eligible for and maintains licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurses in the province of Manitoba
* A minimum of three (3) years within the past five (5) years applicable clinical nursing experience specific to the unit of supervision
* Certifications preferred in: PIECES, Feeding and Swallowing, and Non-violent Crisis Intervention
* Evidence of Management and/or Nursing Leadership Education
* Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
* Knowledge, competence and ability to demonstrate clinical nursing skills and concepts in accordance with approved nursing standards
* Ability to make effective decisions regarding nursing care
* Must be competent with Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
* Demonstrated effective problem solving, organizational skills and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
* Ability to maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and clients
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Client Care Coordinator and/or Care Team Manager, and while demonstrating a commitment to the vision, mission, values and strategic priorities of Prairie Mountain Health, the Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of patient/resident/client care by: providing expert nursing care to residents; guiding nursing staff and Health Care Aides; performing charge nurse functions; advancing nursing practice; networking with physicians and performing other related duties as assigned.
Nurse III’s recognize and fulfill their professional responsibilities by practicing in a manner consistent with professional obligations to take actions as per the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Psychiatric Nurses, and the scope to practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), and other Provincial and Federal legislation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview:
- Co-ordinates patient care activities with the health care team in a prioritized and planned approach to achieve pre-established patient care outcomes.
- Provides direct nursing care to patients and families as necessary.
- Makes patient care judgments with other members of the patient care team by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care, as evidenced in documented nursing care plans.
- Provides support and feedback to patient care team in the implementation of individualized nursing care.
- Maintains current knowledge of patient status within the unit/clinical area; notifies appropriate personnel of any significant unusual situations.
- Assists in the effective and efficient provision of staff resources to meet patient needs in the unit/clinical area (For example, day to day shift assignments).
- Assists in the achievement and maintenance of nursing standards in accordance with overall professional and facility/regional standards.
- In collaboration with the service team, identifies and recommends actions that will improve functioning of the unit/clinical area.
- Promotes and maintains a positive working climate within the unit/clinical area.
- Coordinates specific components of a clinical program as applicable (For example, patient and family conferencing, discharge planning, medication reviews etc.).
- Participates in the development and review of unit/clinical/facility policies and procedures.
- Participates in quality improvement, risk management, client concerns, and utilization statistical activities.
- Assists staff to maintain clinical expertise as new methods and techniques are developed and introduced, as based on research findings.
- Functions as a resource to the public and other departments/programs regarding direct patient care activities.
- Ensures documentation is complete and is consistent with facility/regional policy including that of the health record, transfer sheets, incident reports, etc.
- Coaches and facilitates performance of direct care providers in the designated area.
- Provides direct clinical education to nursing and other staff within the unit/ward/site including but not limited to:
- Teaching predeveloped content as needed and/or providing clinical expertise to facility orientation, staff development and/or the provision of safe care.
- Empowering and assisting staff to gain and/or maintain clinical expertise in new clinical policies, procedures, techniques and/or skills.
- Following personal training; certifies and/or recertifies staff in organizational required competencies and/or transfer of functions.
- Coordinating, leading and providing the orientation of new staff and students to the unit/ward/site.
- As requested and required; provides assistance to the Clinical Education Coordinators and the Regional Education Team by:
- Assisting in the achievement and maintenance of nursing standards of practice in accordance with the overall professional, provincial, regional and facility standards.
- Communicates and promotes staff attendance, participation, involvement and support in regionally developed educational programs.
- Identifies, notifies and arranges educational needs of staff to the Clinical Education Team for the delivery of inservices, events, meetings and/or workshops.
- Ordering, posting or informing staff of current facility, regional and/or provincial instructional or reference material.
- Sundry duties as assigned.
