What is the opportunity?
Corporate Client Group Loan Syndications plays a key role in the realization of Corporate Client Group objectives through the marketing, structuring, delivery and management of multi-bank debt solutions for a targeted customer base. The CCG team targets loan origination in the Canadian mid-market, including private family-held corporations, large Canadian subsidiaries of foreign multinationals, public sector borrowers, financial sponsor-owned businesses, and small to medium cap public Canadian companies.
Reporting to the Head of CCG Loan Syndications, the Director will be responsible for adding value to all aspects of the transaction lifecycle; this includes originating new Lead Arranger/Agency opportunities, providing structuring advice to CCG teams/clients and being solely responsible for marketing/loan distribution to support financing requirements of CCG borrowers. You will be a key source of market intelligence in relation to Canadian syndicated loans in the mid-market space, and be tasked with cultivating and maintaining relationships with other financial institutions. You will deliver best in class client experience and grow the RBC Agency portfolio, while adhering to regulatory requirements and risk management practices.
What will you do?
Evaluate and structure bank financing arrangements to meet CCG client objectives.Liaise with leaders and deal teams across the country, Agency Services, Group Risk Management and RBC Capital Markets Syndications to ensure loan commitments are distributed in line with targets
Coordinate with all CCG groups including Relationship Management, CCG Finance, Mid-Market Leverage and Infrastructure Finance, and Capital Partners to evaluate and originate new business
Assist with negotiation of credit and other legal agreements with outside counsel, clients and participant banks
Take primary responsibility in negotiating, marketing and distributing senior bank financing transactions where RBC is mandated as Lead Arranger/Agent (including preparation of lender presentation, CIMs, agent communications etc.)
Manage relationships with key stakeholders (including borrowers and partner banks)
Support recruitment, training and skill development of junior team members in Loan Syndications and across CCG
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
Minimum 8 years experience in corporate/commercial lending including loan syndications, leverage finance, or similar roles
Special consideration for previous experience in Loan Syndications
Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Accounting, or Finance
Strategic thinker with knowledge of capital markets, commercial/senior lending, and credit structuring
Professional oral and written communication skills with a particular emphasis on delivering compelling presentations, public speaking and on influencing internal/external partners
Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines, prioritize work and multi-task responsibilities while working on multiple projects
Knowledge of the competitive landscape and Canadian bank market, with a detailed knowledge of competitor propositions
Exceptional negotiation skills and demonstrated tact in having difficult conversations
Collaborative team-oriented mindset with proficiency in coordinating large groups of colleagues, participants and clients
Ability to take initiative and function independently
Track record of people management and leadership
Enthusiasm to drive and grow RBCs portfolio as Administrative Agent
