What is the opportunity?

As a Director on the BC Real Estate team, you will be responsible for business development and management of a portfolio of commercial real estate clients, with a primary focus on providing lending solutions for low-rise and high-rise residential real estate projects as well as income producing real estate. In this role, you will work directly with some of RBCs most highly-valued clients, structuring bilateral as well as large, complex syndicated facilities. You will act as a trusted strategic advisor, connecting clients with other RBC partners to meet their diverse commercial and personal financial needs. While credit structuring and portfolio management is ultimately your responsibility, you will be supported by an Associate Director, who will assist with analyzing and underwriting new loan requests, including compiling financial and market information and preparing credit submissions for RBCs real estate risk management group for loan adjudication. Other responsibilities include maintaining your portfolio in good credit health, including proactively managing credit expiries, securities and reporting requirements.

** This role can be based in either the Vancouver OR the Surrey/Fraser Valley market.

What will you do?

  • Manage a portfolio of BC real estate clients;

  • Deliver on financing requests to assist with income producing real estate, predevelopment, land servicing and construction costs for low-rise and high-rise residential projects, including large, complex syndicated transactions;

  • Oversee loan structuring and maintain responsibility for quality of credit underwriting;

  • Mentor and coach Associate Directors in deal structuring, negotiation skills, RBC lending guidelines, policies and risk appetite, profitability requirements;

  • Proactively maintain the health and integrity of accounts from a portfolio quality management perspective;

  • Through long-term strategic planning with clients, maintain an ongoing sales pipeline of real estate transactions and identify opportunities where RBC can support our clients through platforms outside of real estate financing (e.g. Residential Mortgage program, Private Banking, Capital Markets, Commercial Mortgages); and

  • Develop and maintain a strong external network in the BC real estate community, including lending syndicate partners, law firms, cost consultants, etc.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Previous real estate lending experience;

  • Demonstrated track record in sales and business development excellence;

  • Exceptional client relationship management skills;

  • Superior negotiation skills;

  • Excellent credit structuring and underwriting skills

  • Background of project budget and financial statement analysis;

  • Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Word and Excel);

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;

  • Independent worker and team player with apositive attitude;

  • Motivated proactive thinker with detail-oriented and creative problem solving approach;

  • Ability to quickly develop a working knowledge of programs and systems employed by the Bank; and

  • Ongoing and consistent adoption of the Banks goals and core values.

Nice-to-have

  • MBA, CFA or CPA; and

  • Experience leading large, complex syndicated transactions
