The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools invites applications for two full-time Learning Specialist(s) (K-12) in the Learning Supports Department at the Education Centre in Airdrie commencing August 26, 2025 to June 30, 2029. This position will be under the direction of the Director of Learning Supports and the Learning Supports Leadership team. The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as this position requires travel between RVS sites.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Engage as part of an inter-disciplinary team for the consistent implementation of RVS’s continuum of supports and services designed to meet the social/emotional, behavioural, and academic needs of all students across the division
- Consult and collaborate in monitoring and evaluating the provision of equitable access to evidence-based services and interventions across the division
- Collaborate as part of a team to help support leaders and teachers to design and implement inclusive instruction and assessment practices including social emotional learning and academics
- Support the transition of students with additional needs school to school and school to community
- Strong understanding of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and evidence and research-based behavioral and academic interventions
- Support schools with curriculum implementation
- Support teachers with the implementation of research and evidence-based instruction and assessment practices
- Support schools with analyzing and using data to inform practice and plan for instruction
- Support ongoing numeracy and literacy implementation
- Plan and lead professional learning sessions for staff as required. This may include working extensively in schools through small group professional learning, working elbow to elbow with teachers, co-teaching, modelling, coaching and mentoring
- Support staff in identifying, selecting, and creating high quality, inclusive, culturally responsive resources which accurately reflect and demonstrate strengths, diversity, and worldviews
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies include:
- Knowledge of medical, mental health and learning diagnosis and the implications for learning, programming and service delivery
- Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development, behaviour, mental health, social emotional and academic learning needs
- Experience implementing a range of strategies that promote positive behaviour, crisis intervention, family involvement and support in school
- Ability to work across kindergarten through Grade 12 learning environments
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to understand Indigenizing and decolonizing practices
- Ability to proficiently use a variety of technology platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
The successful candidate must:
- Have recent Learning Support Teacher experience
- Have a minimum 5 years recent classroom experience
- Have completed 1-year additional post secondary education in one of the following programs:
- Learning Supports
- Inclusive Education
- Specialist Education
- Disability Studies
- A combination of education and experience could be considered
- Be comfortable working with staff and students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in inclusive education settings
- Be familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides, Board Strategic Plan, and Divisional Education Plan
- Collaborate with other Learning Specialists to support staff in creating accessible, engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students
- Have experience leading a learning community influencing growth of practice
- Have an understanding of the policies and procedures that guide teaching and learning (Provincial and jurisdictional)
