POSITION

Worksite : Strathcona Elementary School

Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time - 60% Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

Assignment Area(s): Primary - Kindergarten

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: October 1, 2024 until not later than June 30, 2025

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment

• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment

• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.

• successful experience with planning and teaching primary students; teaching experience with kindergarten is an asset

• demonstrated ability to plan for and teach all required subjects at this grade level, to effectively address the academic and social/emotional learning needs of a diverse group of students

• experience with differentiating instruction and utilizing methods for targeting instruction selecting and adapting instructional materials to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of a diverse group of students

• knowledge of and proven experience in using current assessment practices to inform and guide instruction

• proven ability to create a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment that promotes the success of all learners

• demonstrated knowledge and proven success with effective classroom management

• commitment to implementing all aspects of the Code of Conduct and Behaviour Matrix

• knowledge and demonstrated ability in teaching a well-balanced literacy program utilizing sound teaching practices exemplified in SMART learning, the ACT, Reading/Writing Power and Write Traits

• knowledge and demonstrated ability in teaching a well-balanced numeracy program, including the use of the district’s S.N.A.P assessment

• demonstrated ability to support school and district initiatives to provide meaningful learning experiences for students including Project Based, STEM and/or Place Based Learning

• experience with implementing of high impact instructional strategies

• knowledge and demonstrated experience with First People’s Principle of Learning, differentiating instruction and use of proven Social-Emotional Learning/Self-Regulation approaches (Calm, Alert & Learning, Mind Up, Strong Kids, Zones of Regulation) are preferred

• demonstrated ability using technology in instruction to enhance student engagement for a wide range of abilities

• proven ability as an effective team member working collaboratively with colleagues and administration and/or leading school-wide initiatives
