POSITION

Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time
Assignment Area(s): Grade 7/8 Generalist - Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Physical & Health Education, French, Fine Arts (i.e., Art, Drama), ADST (i.e., IT, Coding) and Careers
Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)
Effective Date: Immediately until not later than Dec 16, 2024 (or return of Teacher)

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
• understanding and commitment to current middle school philosophy:
? Teaming - demonstrated ability and experience working with one or two other teachers to support a core group of students
? Advisory - dedicated instructional time with students to foster connectedness and positive relationships to support adolescent development
? Exploratory - providing students the opportunity to sample high interest courses
? Collaboration - ongoing inquiry-based teamwork
• demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies and lesson designs in the classroom (i.e., A Connect, Process, Transform, Reflect approach)
• demonstrated use of highly successful assessment strategies in the classroom - for, of and as learning
• demonstrated experience intervening, supporting, and motivating struggling learners through a Response to Intervention (RTI) lens, particularly in literacy and numeracy key concepts
• demonstrated ability to recognize and acknowledge individual student differences and adjust instructional practices accordingly through informal adaptations and formal IEP’s (Individual Education Plans)
• demonstrated ability to engage and motivate students in day-to-day lessons through the appropriate integration of technology
• demonstrated ability to set and clarify learning standards and to establish effective classroom procedures and relationships
• demonstrated excellent classroom management, behaviour management and classroom organization skills; experience with Positive Behaviour interventions and Support (PBiS) is an asset
• demonstrated high energy and interpersonal skills
• proven ability to inspire confidence and self-worth in adolescents
• successful experience in intermediate/middle school classrooms would be an asset
