POSITION
Worksite: Greendale Elementary School
Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time (20% - Tuesdays only)
Assignment Area(s): Primary - Grade 1
Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement)
Effective Date: Immediately Until not later than June 30, 2025

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
• extensive academic training, professional preparation and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment at the elementary level (preference will be given to applicants with both Grade 1 experience)
• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment at the Grade 1 levels
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
• training and successful experience in teaching primary students using Ministry of Education Curriculum through a play-based learning approach
• demonstrated strong, practical knowledge and application of sound teaching strategies to support the direct instruction of literacy skills: reading, writing, and oral language. Preference will be given to individuals who are familiar with and willing to use daily guided reading strategies as part of a balanced literacy program
• knowledge and demonstrated ability in using sound teaching practices exemplified in SMART learning, Reading Power and Writing Power/Write Traits, SNAP
• demonstrated strong, practical knowledge and application of sound teaching strategies to support the direct instruction of numeracy skills
• experience, training in, and a willingness to carry out the District Early Intervention Screens such as the LST (Language Screening Test)
• demonstrated ability to support school goals such as partnering with the community to provide meaningful learning experiences for students including Place Based Learning
• demonstrated ability to effectively address student lagging skills, and demonstrated effective classroom organizational skills to meet student social and emotional needs
• knowledge of and proven experience in using current assessment practices to allow students to show what they know and to guide instruction
• knowledge of methods for selecting, modifying and adapting instructional materials to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of a diverse group of students
• commitment to being part of a collaborative team involving in-service with colleagues
• commitment to implementing all aspects of the Code of Conduct and Behaviour Matrix within the classroom and throughout the school
• proven ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff and parents
• proven ability as an effective team member leading school-wide initiatives, willing to work collaboratively with staff, parents and administration (School Based Team model)
