POSITION

Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time
Assignment Area(s): ELL Teacher
Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement)
Effective Date: Immediately until not later than December 1, 2024 (or return of teacher)
Please Note: If we have no qualified applicants, we are willing to consider applicants who do not possess the qualifications for this assignment but who are willing to undertake a program of professional study to become fully qualified as per the criteria set out in this posting. There will also be required in-service for the successful candidate to complete. The assignment within this position in September may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
• specialized course work in the following areas of ELL: teaching methodology, cross-cultural sensitization, multicultural studies, and applied linguistics
• cultural awareness and experience in Aboriginal Education
• experience teaching landed immigrant and international ELL students
• knowledge of ELL Ministry of Education eligibility criteria for 1701 reporting
• experience in conducting formal, level B assessments on ELL students
• experience in developing Annual Individual Plans (AIPs) for ELL students
• knowledge of current best practices in education of ELL students
• knowledge of SIOP or a willingness to be trained in SIOP
• understanding of the different English language proficiency levels to plan program delivery
• experience with planning and lesson delivery that addresses the 4 domains of language proficiency: oral, listening, reading, and writing
• knowledge and experience with the 7 Co-Teaching models of lesson delivery
• experience with collaborating with classroom teachers in co-planning and co-teaching
to support ELL students
• experience with supporting classroom teachers in understanding of best practices and adaptations to the classroom environment or curriculum to support ELL students
• experience with delivering small group instruction
• knowledge and application of UDL practices
• experience with acting as an advocate for ELL students
• experience in working and collaborating with school learning services team
• experience with or willingness to be the family liaison contact for the ELL student’s family
• knowledge and experiences with SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools)
• experience and knowledge with coordinating support and inter-agency services for ELL learners
• cultural awareness and experience in Indigenous Education and First People’s Principal of Learning
