Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- Master's degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services, as it relates to behavior and mental health support.
- Demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- Ability to work one on one and in small groups with students, focusing on social emotional learning, externalizing behaviors, and managing anxiety.
- Additional training, experience and/or post graduate coursework in supporting students with academic challenges or gaps.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong connections and relationships with students, staff and parents.
- Demonstrated willingness to participate as an integral member of the School Based Team.
- Demonstrated success at working with and coordinating SEL programs with the child and youth care worker and/or community partners.
- Demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to teach students strategies that enable them to self-regulate their emotions and behaviors.
- Demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of young adolescent development and enthusiasm for fostering a positive relationship with students with multiple challenges.
- Training and experience in conflict resolution.
- Excellent leadership, organizational and coordination skills.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or disengaged from learning (possibly shown in low attendance in class or school).
- Demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to connect families with community services for students and families.
- Experience working with students and families to access substance use support.
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills, communication, and collaboration.
