Job Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director and the District Principal in Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor is a dynamic business partner within the Delta School District, committed to fostering a positive and effective work environment. This role is integral to supporting District goals by providing expert guidance in recruitment, labour relations, collective agreement interpretation, employee development and safety. The HR Advisor will work collaboratively with District leadership and union representatives to address and resolve HR issues, ensuring compliance with collective agreements and promoting a safe and productive workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Recruitment and Staffing

Collaborate with school leaders to identify staffing needs and ensure class specifications and job descriptions accurately reflect the work.

Oversee the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screenings, interviews, references, selection, and offers of employment.

Support onboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition for new hires, enhancing their integration into the culture of the District.

Conducts training for HR initiatives.

2. Labour Relations

Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract high-quality candidates for various positions within the district.

Act as a key liaison between the District and the two unions, fostering positive relationships and facilitating open communication.

Assist in the administration of collective bargaining agreements, ensuring fair and consistent application of terms.

Provide advice and support on labour relations issues including disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution, aiming to resolve issues amicably and efficiently.

Stay informed on labour laws and regulations to ensure compliance and proactively address potential issues.

3. Collective Agreement Interpretation:

Interpret and apply collective agreement provisions in consultation with union representatives and District leadership.

Provide clear and accurate guidance to management and employees regarding the terms of the agreements.

Conduct training sessions for District leadership and staff on collective agreement provisions and updates.

4. Employee Orientation and Development:

Deliver comprehensive orientation programs for new employees to facilitate their understanding of district policies, procedures, and culture.

Identify and recommend professional development opportunities to enhance employee skills and career growth.

Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback and insights for continuous improvement.

5. Safety and Wellness:

Work with the District Safety Officer to support the implementation of safety initiatives

Promote a safe and healthy work environment through training programs, and wellness initiatives.

Address and resolve health and safety concerns in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Support leave management processes and procedures.

6. Job Evaluation and Compensation:

Conduct job evaluations to ensure positions are accurately classified and compensated according to established BCPSEA and JEMC guidelines.

7. HR Partnership:

Promote and uphold a positive and inclusive organizational culture that supports the mission and values of the District.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

4 years of recent, related experience supplemented by a university degree or diploma in a relevant discipline such as business or human resources or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience working in a complex multi-union environment.

Designation as a Certified HR Professional (CPHR) is preferred.

Experience working in an educational or public sector environment is an asset.

Valid class 5 driver’s license required.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of employment law, human rights legislation, collective bargaining agreements, WorkSafe BC requirements and HR best practices.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and resolve conflicts effectively.

Analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Starting Salary: $78,490
