Computer Systems Technologist - Level 2

Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

This position coordinates technical work and services for computer and networking services of the district. The work involves the development of standards, procedures, the analysis and resolution of problems, planning and directing assigned projects and similar tasks related to computer systems, networks, administration and end-user support. The work of this position is distinguished from that of the Computer Systems Technologist by the responsibility for major and/or more technically complex projects. This position is under the general supervision of the Assistant Manager of Technology and Information Services, but work is performed independently with minimal direction received.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

(This is not an exhaustive list of the duties to be performed.)

Plans, designs, tests, maintains and supports computer systems, Local and Wide Area Network systems, etc.

Monitors network and system activities and makes changes to optimize performance.

Recommends information technology strategies, policy, standards, procedure and security. Participates in capacity planning and system design.

Liaises with school administrators, site contacts and outside agencies.

Provides advice, in-service workshops, training and assistance to users and technical staff regarding

the operation of equipment, the use of applications, and other issues.

Prepares technical documentation of operational procedures.

Acts as project leader and supervises the work of a small group of staff engaged in tasks related to

assigned projects.

Continuously upgrades skills to keep abreast of new technology

Performs other job related duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as necessary.

Required Qualifications

Grade 12 or equivalent plus a Diploma in Computer Information Systems Technology or related subjects from a recognized institution of technology plus seven (7) years relevant work experience including four (4) years service work including project supervision experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certification in one or more LAN and WAN operating systems.

Certification in one or more work station operating systems.

Extensive knowledge of established computer systems, current network operating systems and current structural network design practices.

Working knowledge of current characteristics and capabilities of telecommunications hardware and

software.

Experience with Active Directory and GPO, SSCM, Intune, Linux servers, and server hardware would be an asset.

Ability to organize workload, work under periodic pressure and deadlines and complete projects and

assignments with minimal supervision.

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling and moving materials, equipment and supplies.

Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License

This position is in the bargaining unit, with an hourly rate of pay of $38.65 plus a benefit package of medical, extended health, dental and a pension plan.
