THE OPPORTUNITY: BUDGET ANALYST (TECHNICAL & RESOURCE SUPPPORT E)

In this position, you will:

Work directly with budget holders, review and monitor expenditure against budget, investigate variances, determine and initiate corrective action when necessary, and make appropriate recommendations to management

Develop and maintain budget monitoring systems, procedures and budget data integrity

Formulate projections and ad-hoc analysis based on a wide variety of data sources and inputs; provide future-oriented information that informs management decision making

Coordinate and prepare budget submissions to the Province with operational input from a wide range of budget holders

Support program managers in developing financial acumen and an understanding of the organization’s accounting and budgeting policies and procedures

Provide information to, and interact with, external auditors

Provide technical & resource support to the Finance department

Perform other duties within the job band as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid CPA designation required

Minimum 5 years’ relevant senior accounting experience

Thorough knowledge and experience with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP required and knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is an asset

Experience working in supporting the budget process within a publicly funded organization an asset

Candidates must possess proven ability to: establish priorities and meet tight and possibly conflicting deadlines, work independently as well as in a team environment, apply good judgement, and problem solve

Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong analytical skills, data manipulation and Excel skills required

Experience with PeopleSoft Financials (or another tier 1 Enterprise Resource Planning software) preferred

Must be able to meet the following assessments: Excel (70%) and the applicable Accounting assessment

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is $84,393.40 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, & Gratuity Days. Pre-approved OT is paid as double-time ($92.74/hour).

This position is 100% in-person/in-office at the VSB Education Centre (1580 West Broadway
