Elementary Teacher - MULTI-AGE CLUSTER CLASSES (MACC) for High Ability Learners

1.0 FTE Temporary to June 2025

The Burnaby School District is on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Nations of Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish.

The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. With more than 100 languages spoken in the homes of its students, the District is one of the most culturally diverse in Canada.

The MACC program is an interdisciplinary, inquiry-based program for high ability learners. It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop a depth and breadth of understanding of grade level curriculum in a rigorous, creative and intellectually stimulating environment. The program will provide a differentiated curriculum, which includes a combination of enrichment, integrated studies, and project-based learning. Reflection on individual learning styles, social-emotional development, the nature of excellence and group dynamics are integral parts of the program. MACC program teachers will have the opportunity to collaborate with each other, with school-based staff and administration, and with district advanced learning education staff.

Burnaby School District is seeking an Elementary Teacher for our MACC Grade 6/7 Class.

Required:

A Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree or academic equivalent

Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Senior level course work, experience and/or demonstrated effectiveness in working with elementary high ability students.

Skills in developing IEP's for gifted students

Ability to modify teaching approaches and adapt curriculum to meet individual learner needs including advanced conceptual understanding, accelerated pace of learning, and asynchronous development

Knowledge and understanding of the emotional and social development of high ability learners and appropriate strategies to support these learning needs.
