Vision Support Teacher (.4FTE)

Coquitlam School District invites applications from individuals for the position of continuing, part-time (0.4FTE) Vision Support Teacher. As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4,300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in education of the visually impaired

Qualifications in orientation and mobility are preferred

Valid B.C. teaching certificate

Ability to travel between sites

Candidates should have:

Flexibility and ability to work as part of a team

High level of interpersonal skills and ability to prioritize

Ability to collaborate effectively with school teams, families and community agencies

Knowledge of student eligibility for Ministry of Education Vision category

Provide universal tier one supports for students with vision challenges in classrooms

Provide program/resource development for students with vision-based needs

Consult with district and school-based staff, parents and community agencies to support students with vision-based needs

Knowledge of current assistive technologies to support students with vision-based needs

A willingness to attend district-based professional development opportunities in an effort to stay current and implement best practices

A willingness to provide a variety of in-service opportunities to school and district staff
