Generic Qualifications (All Vacancies)

The following qualifications are generic and necessary to all teaching positions in School District No. 51 (Boundary).

Applicants must have :

A certificate of qualification issued under the Teachers Act;

A Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history and communities;

Willingness to integrate appropriate Indigenous content and resources into educational programs;

Demonstrated strong classroom management skills;

Strong understanding of the revised BC curriculum;

Demonstrated successful ability to use technology as a tool to enhance and support learning;

Willingness to work collaboratively on a team that is committed to the principles of a learner-focused education system;

Willingness to work collaboratively toward improving student achievement by actively supporting the strategies and structures in the School Growth Plans;

A demonstrated successful ability to work with all students by embedding inclusive practices;

A demonstrated successful ability to adapt the teaching process to individual student needs and learning styles;

A demonstrated successful ability to provide a learning environment where all aspects of a student’s development are enhanced and extended;

A demonstrated successful ability to communicate with parents, students and other teaching staff.

Necessary Qualifications:

Specialization in secondary school instruction;

Background appropriate to teaching Math at secondary level.

Degree or Diploma in Special Education;

Recent successful teaching experience and/or training at the secondary level;

Training to administer level B student assessment instruments;

Academic training and experience in the planning and delivery of programs to students with a range of exceptionality including at least three of Mild Intellectual Disabilities, Moderate to Profound Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Physically Dependent or Physical Disability or Chronic Health Impairment or other designation recognized by the Ministry of Education;

Demonstrated readiness and ability to facilitate the Individual Education Plan planning and delivery process working with the school-based team and enrolling teachers in the school;

Demonstrated ability to work effectively on the planning and delivery of a teacher assistant program with enrolling classrooms;

Ability to make use of computer technology to support the learning of exceptional learners;

Ability to work effectively to meet the diverse behavioral and emotional needs of students;

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with parents, enrolling teachers and the school-based team in the planning and delivery of special needs programs;

Ability to work effectively on the planning and delivery of a teacher assistant program within enrolling classrooms;

Recent ESL/ESD teaching experience and/or training and experience with Indigenous learners is an asset;

Demonstrated working knowledge of the learning needs of Indigenous learners and incorporating/connecting culturally relevant content and resources into program and services;

The appropriate background, as well as demonstrated ability and willingness to collaborate and participate in

“co-teaching” with classroom teachers.
