VICE PRINCIPAL Elementary/Secondary School

School District No. 53 (Okanagan Similkameen) invites applicants for the position of vice-principal at Similkameen Elementary Secondary School effective August 1, 2025. The district serves approximately 2,400 students and is located in the sunny Okanagan and Similkameen valleys in Southern British Columbia on the traditional unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan people. Similkameen Elementary Secondary School is located in the community of Keremeos, BC, enrolling approximately 310 students in grades five through twelve.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and passionate educator with demonstrated leadership qualities in instructional pedagogy, educational transformation, and in working collaboratively with others to improve outcomes for students. This forward-thinking individual can expect to work collaboratively as part of an administrative team to promote exemplary practice, a culture that fosters learning, belonging, inquiry and engagement at school and district levels.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education with relevant focus.
  • Demonstrated strength in interpersonal skills; specifically, ability to build working relationships and interactions with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Exemplary knowledge and experience in middle/secondary learning environments and strong pedagogy.
  • Ability and a strong commitment to foster a positive, supportive, and effective school culture and climate.
  • Effective organizational, conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in creating classroom and school experiences and structures that support the inclusion and success of all students.
  • Sound knowledge of BC curriculum, assessment and research and the demonstrated ability to lead effective teaching and assessment practices.
  • Successful experience building relationships with Indigenous students, their families and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community partners.
  • Ability to promote good labour relations and sound personnel management within established regulations such as District Policy, the School Act, collective agreements and WorkSafeBC.
  • Ability and willingness to be an integral participant in school and district initiatives; and
  • Strong technology literacy and demonstrated ability in its application for instructional and administrative purposes.
