Industrial Education Machine Fitter

(Subject to Internal Staffing Process)

The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities. To provide this service, the District has a current operating budget of $210 million and employs approximately 3,500 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.

The Industrial Education Machine Fitter is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing all power tools and equipment used in the delivery of educational programs throughout the Greater Victoria School District.

Qualifications;

Legally able to work in Canada

Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC driver's license

Machine Fitter Trade Certification or a recognized trade certification in a related field as issued or recognized by the Province of B.C. that requires proficiency working according to very precise specifications; operating precision metal cutting and grinding machines such as lathes, planers, milling machines, saws, drills, shapers, boring mills and grinders.

Completion of five (5) or more years of specific experience in similar duties is required

Must be physically able to perform all duties as noted in the Job Description

Possess knowledge of personal computers, including current word processing, spreadsheet, database and facilities management software used by SD#61

Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a leadership role. Stakeholders could include principals, teachers, students, parents, office staff and Facilities staff, etc.

Maintains a cooperative working relationship with other workers, supervisory and teaching staff, students and the public
