Description
Stein Valley Nlakapamux School in Lytton, BC, is currently compiling a teacher candidate bank to fill future vacancies in all areas K-12. All classrooms are a maximum of 18 students with a Student Support Worker/Education Assistant. Stein Valley Nlakapamux School (SVNS) is a well-established and growing Independent School centrally located in the Fraser Canyon (3 hours from Vancouver and Kelowna, 2 hours from Kamloops). SVNS offers K4 to Grade 12 along with an Adult Diploma Program. We are an innovative school that weaves Nlakapamux culture and language with 21st century learning.
A unique element at SVNS is that we have a strong focus on language and culture. Students are instructed in Nlha.kapamuhhchEEN from K4 all the way through grade 12 and are taken on many cultural trips throughout the year as we focus on land-based learning. Students attend hunting and fishing camps, harvest local medicinal plants, and are given the history of sacred spots throughout the territory. They are also provided with regular NlhakapamuhhchEEn language classes that combine outdoor and indoor education. SVNS continuously strives to think outside of the box. We provide our students with the most interesting and genuine learning experiences possible. We have an amazing agriculture project, skate park, and a wide range of extra-curricular programs such as clubs and sport teams.
SVNS provides its employees with a moving loan subsidy, full group health (including pension and life) and dental benefits, subsidized rental housing and the teaching pay scale follows the local public school wage grid. Our unique school year starts at the end of July with four semesters that are based on the seasons. Each semester is nine or ten weeks with a 2 or 3 week break in between. Our team of teachers, support staff, board, and community members focus on student success by providing a meaningful, quality educational program built around the Nlakapamux language and culture.
