LOCKSMITH



The Maintenance Services Department of the Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Locksmith. Reporting to the Building Infrastructure Supervisor, the Locksmith will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing emergency, preventative, and planned maintenance complete with new installation/upgrading of Building Systems while assisting other trade staff throughout the Simcoe County District School Board as required to meet operational needs. This position may be required to work outside of normal hours as determined by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The habitual work location would be the Education Centre with the requirement to travel throughout the county.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Locksmith certification or similar training under the 259L certificate. For example, Locksmith and Home Security Technician training course or equivalent program completion.
  • Experience with installation, maintenance and cleaning of door hardware ; Locks, panic bars, hinges, cabinet locks, door closers, padlocks, etc.
  • Ability to make keys and change lock combinations; set up key schedules for new schools; re-key all existing lock types and pick malfunctioning locks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete forms and requisitions.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks working from ladders.
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and time management skills.
  • Computer literacy is sufficient to operate Facility Services Computerized Maintenance Work Order System.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member in a multi-disciplined team and with staff, students, and the general public.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License is a requirement, and proof thereof will be requested on hiring. A current Drivers abstract will also be required and reviewed on hiring.
  • Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Working at Heights fall arrest safety training.
  • Lock out tag out/Control of hazardous energy.
  • Training and experience with Best master keying and Best key pinning system.
  • Experience with Access control.
