Job Description

The Opportunity

The Assistant Vice President, Global Data Governance Technology is responsible for data management and governance for the data platform across Manulife and all its segments! They will be responsible for managing a team with varied skills including business and data analysts, governance SMEs, developers, and risk and controls specialists. They will work closely with business partners and the data governance teams within the segment Data Offices to ensure consistency in the implementation of data governance tools and processes.

While the role requires a proven foundation on technology and data, information management, information risk, controls and governance the role requires excellent client relationship and partner leadership skills, intuition for business and proficiency in interacting with various partners across all levels across the organization!


Responsibilities

Data Management and Governance

  • Collaborate with the business partners to implement the Global Data Governance Strategy
  • Ensure all data management processes conform to enterprise technology standards and policies across all segments within Manulife globally
  • Develop capability and technology solutions around key data governance areas of data sharing, access management, data quality management, data lineage, metadata management and the data catalog, records management. Automate data management processes and governance activities related to key governance areas
  • Complete metrics and KPI dashboards to support data governance outcomes and provide insights to leadership
  • Complete Proof-of-Concept for Data Governance tooling and provide recommendation on industry standard methodologies
  • Act as the technology owner of the technical solutions developed to support governance and data management standards

Information Risk and Controls

  • Coordinate with Information Security and Information Risk Management teams to ensure compliance with controls and standards across all data initiatives
  • Mentor and advise the delivery team of engineers, analysts and other technical staff on requirements
  • Develop internal processes and controls in support of risk requirements

Management

  • Coach, mentor and direct a team of business and data analysts, data governance SMEs, developers, and risk and controls specialists
  • Develop KPI’s and reports to track value delivery. Publish outcomes to senior management
  • Lead small to medium sized groups to deliver initiatives across segments

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, math, or field related to information, data management and analytics or financial services
  • 8-10 years of technology experience in data and analytics
  • Knowledge on data regulations, privacy, ethical use of data, data sharing, critical data indicators, access management and data masking techniques.
  • Experience using industry recognized data management practices and frameworks such as DAMA, CMMI/ DMI/ COBIT or others
  • Knowledge and experience using Azure data services: Azure data lake, ADF, Databricks, Synapse, SQL, PowerBI, Data Catalog, and others.
  • Experience with one or multiple data management tools such as Informatica, Collibra, Purview, Ataccama, InfoSphere, Alation, Purview
  • Data management technologies/concepts: Data lake, data warehouse, relational databases, NoSQL, ETL, master data management, analytics, BI
  • Experience in the design and development of enterprise-wide systems and in implementing data governance programs.
  • Solid grasp of Agile/ DevOps/ DevSecOps methodologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of information risk management and regulatory compliance related processes, controls and tools.
  • Excellent partner management, influencing, conflict resolution and negotiation skills

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
