Director, US Reinsurance Operations

The Director, US Reinsurance Operations is accountable for the management of Reinsurance Operations strategy, development and execution of plans to meet the business needs for the increasing growth of reinsurance arrangements. These strategies will enhance process engineering and operational efficiency in order to manage risk and increase the organization’s effectiveness and ensure consistent high quality service delivery, while also delivering increased insight into all aspects of our reinsurance portfolio.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Thinking: Participate as part of the Group Reinsurance Management Team responsible for strategic planning and leadership; identify opportunities for the business to further its goals. Contribute to the strategic direction for the business, especially as it relates to Operations. Participate in key decisions on major projects and initiatives with business unit wide impact.

  • People Leadership: Effectively use strong communication skills to translate Segment business strategy into workable plans/projects for Reinsurance Operations. Lead, motivate and develop teams within Reinsurance Operations. Set clear objectives for direct reports to attain business goals. Play influential role in leading an operational team in growth and in driving change, while working in a complex and changing environment. Lead and develop a customer centric culture by attracting and developing high performance employees and providing career growth opportunities in the area. Liaise with other Senior Management in John Hancock to align goals with business strategy.

  • Business Acumen: Proactively establishes and implements quality and productivity initiatives for continuous improvement. Delivers and executes large-scale projects which will transform business processing and Reinsurance Operations within Group Finance and Actuarial. Provide business direction and planning to prioritize the development and maintenance of administration systems and other support technologies. Develop and implement programs and benchmarks to measure quality and productivity within Reinsurance Operation’s processes.

  • Personal Effectiveness: Demonstrates strong achievement orientation and looks for continuous ways to improve, continually pushing for results, looking for new ways to increase operational effectiveness, value-added insights and motivate surrounding teams. Ability to lead in ambiguous high-pressured environments, providing guidance and showing resilience in the rapid pace of change. Strong and practical risk taker focused on continuous self -development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strategic orientation

  • Ability to interact with numerous other areas and Senior Management on key business issues as well as demonstrate strong management skills in the areas of leadership, staff development, team building and organizational management

  • Strong presentation facilitation, communication skill

  • Excellent understanding of the life insurance and reinsurance with the ability to translate external issues and trends to internal business strategy

  • Operationally focused and results-oriented

  • Strong change management and communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capability

Salary range is expected to be between

$103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
