Job Description

The opportunity

Manulife has a vision for a Global Data Strategy - unlike our competitors. You will be part of Canada Retirement team within the established Global Wealth Asset Management group. And you will be reporting to the Director of Engineering. We are innovative, ambitious, and seek to embrace best standard methodologies. Are you a like-minded senior engineer with REST API experience? If so, let’s talk.

This is a position for a technically strong hands-on, collaborative, senior developer who can improve our existing software systems and craft exciting new API-based microservices. But there is more: you will need a solid understanding of distributed systems architecture using REST API, microservice, Kubernetes and Azure cloud technologies.

Soft Skill

  • Experience and ability to work with both onshore and offshore team members

Hard skills

  • 5+ years of experience in developing, improving, and operating microservices (REST API)
  • Deep knowledge of Java, Object-Oriented Programming and Design Patterns
  • Extensive work experience with Spring boot or JEE experience
  • Hands-on experience delivering large-scale solutions using React, node.js, NextJS
  • Experience using and developing REST API microservices
  • Solid understanding of SQL/relational databases (like Oracle or MS SQL Server)
  • Experience deploying applications in Docker or Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • Experience working with GIT source control
  • Hands-on experience to use or create deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Ability to design secure and performant distributed systems
  • Review new code and assess existing source code
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in production environment
  • Enforce application development standards and best practices
  • Adhere to the agile methodologies Software Development Process
  • Identify, analyze and improve existing software systems and processes
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Preferable previous work experience in Financial Services company

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$92,190.00 CAD - $171,210.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
