Duties:
The Transportation Technician shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not restricted to the following:
Certify the safety of buses.
Assist in maintaining shop and grounds to be clean and safe.
Carry out a preventative maintenance program for all division-owned vehicles.
Do inventory of stock as required and recommend parts required for ordering.
Assist in keeping equipment up-to-date to maintain buses and fleet vehicles.
Maintain a safe working environment that will satisfy all rules and regulations which govern its operation.
Handle all maintenance concerns regarding safe operation of buses or division vehicles.
Be prepared to meet emergency needs at times other than during regular hours.
Upgrade skills where required to ensure that proper maintenance procedures are used.
Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to an educational institution that provides services to children.
Be willing to engage in lifelong learning with respect to training, in-service and courses of study.
Be able to temporarily fill in for the Foreman when needed.
Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the Transportation Foreman.
Required Education, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
A Grade 12 diploma from a provincially recognized institution or equivalent
Valid class 5 Driver's License
A Clean Criminal Record Check and drivers abstract
A Heavy duty Journeyperson's certification or equivalent experience in the automotive service industry
Related training such as courses in first aid, defensive driving, or heavy equipment operation would be considered an asset.
Previous experience in the operation of a school bus would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of highway and school bus legislation and regulations would be considered an asset.
Current certification with SGI, Apply for School Buses.
Experience in computer diagnosis would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures.

Salary range: $38.51 per hour to $44.78 per hour (ticketed)
