Sunnybrook’s Working Condition Program (WCP) at the Holland Centre has a new exciting opportunity for an OTA/PTA to join the team. This inaugural role will contribute to implementing and establishing a new model of care within the WCP that includes assignment of OT and PT treatment service components to an OTA/PTA, in order to help patients achieve their return to work goals.  

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Prepare, organize and conduct individual and group therapeutic activities with assigned patients under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
  • Participate regularly in interprofessional care team, business and professional council meetings
  • Complete clinical documentation and daily workload measurement
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of therapeutic supplies, assessment and resource forms, and kitchen supplies
  • Provide preventive maintenance to Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy equipment
  • Ensure the on-going integrity and function of therapeutic equipment and treatment areas
  • Apply various modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, Transcutaneous Neave Stimulation (TENS), Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
  • Assist with the fabrication and application of various splints, orthoses and adaptive aids used to provide and enhance function, position and/or joint immobilization
  • Participate in special projects/ assignment related to program and service development and program improvement
  • Conduct work in a safe manner; prevention, identification and reporting of safety issues and problems; taking corrective action, where possible; attendance at safety meetings / training / updates in accordance with the Hospital’s standards
  • Directly supervise OTA/PTA students as assigned
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills

  • Diploma from an accredited college for the Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant program required
  • Min. 2 years of experience in musculoskeletal, outpatient setting 
  • Previous experience with WSIB workers preferred
  • Previous experience working with patients with chronic pain and/ or behaviour diagnoses preferred
  • Proven ability to be responsible for carrying out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral, written, and non-verbal communication skills required
  • Demonstrated understanding of rehabilitation principles and ability to communicate and work successfully in an interprofessional team environment
  • Demonstrated professional judgment and interpersonal skills in collaborating with patients and their families, other health care team members and the community members
