Summary of Duties
ONTraC (Ontario Transfusion Coordinating Program) is a Ministry of Health sponsored program that obtains and provides funding yearly for the maintenance of a Blood Conservation Clinic. As an ONTraC Coordinator your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: participating in the maintenance and expansion of the existing program, working with physicians, surgeons, nurses, the Transfusion Medicine Clinic and other allied health professions to develop centres of excellence in blood conservation; critical assessment of clients/information/data; collaboration and co-ordination of preoperative interventions, education and patient advocacy for those patients requiring hemoglobin optimization or autologous blood donation; data research and audit work; monitoring outcomes and benchmarking to like programs.
The ONTrac coordinator practices in accordance with standards of the College of Nurses; Patient Centred Care concept; and the principles, mission and values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration
- Current BCLS
- Masters preferred
- Minimum of 5 years surgical experience required
- Critical Care experience preferred
- Computer skills essential, including word processing, spreadsheet, power-point and data base applications
- Data Management experience required
- Ability to actively participate in relevant internal and external committees
- Demonstrated skills to plan, implement, and assess adult educational programs
- Ability to integrate and apply research and Best Practices into clinical practice
- Able to function autonomously and as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past 2 years and willingness to remain current in blood management field
- Demonstrated effective ability in: leadership; interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organizational skills; prioritizing; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution
