Job Overview

The Sunnybrook Research Institute, Department of Family and Community Medicine, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking a motivated and efficient Research Assistant to join a research team working on an exciting multi-year, multi-stage project exploring family medicine job satisfaction and work environment preferences. This individual will perform research activities, support and coordinate various aspects of the research study including literature review, qualitative focus groups and interviews, and survey distribution.

This is a work from home position with occasional in-person work at Sunnybrook as needed.

Responsibilities:

Multi-task and coordinate research project activities with guidance from the principal investigator and study team. This includes the following:

  • Assist with Research Ethics Board application and amendments, and maintain study compliance with all terms.
  • Assist with systematic review.
  • Develop study materials.
  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling, and followup of participants.
  • Prepare survey mailouts.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis.
  • Track project finances and prepare financial reports.
  • Schedule and participate in team meetings.
  • Assist with preparation of projectrelated presentations and manuscripts.
  • Assist with grant applications and manuscript submissions.
  • Liaise with investigators and study staff to ensure the consistency and quality of all study procedures.
  • Occasional inperson work at Sunnybrook as needed.
  • Work independently as well as within a collaborative environment.
  • Assist with the dayto-day operations of the study.
  • Other duties as required by the principal investigator.

 

Qualifications and skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with Master’s degree an asset.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in health services research and/or qualitative research experience.
  • TCPS CORE 2 certification and GCP certification (required within 4 weeks of hiring).
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to learn new skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills, including multitasking and flexibility to adapt to changing workload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to diverse communities and priority populations.

Preferred:

  • Experience conducting standardized semistructured interviews, qualitative interviews and focus groups is highly desired.
  • Experience with survey design and distribution.
  • Competence with various software programs such as Qualtrics, REDCap, NVivo, STATA, R, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience with conducting systematic reviews.
  • Experience organizing, managing, coding, and analyzing quantitative data.
  • Experience in biostatistics, research ethics, and grant and manuscript writing.
  • Experience with handling multiple research tasks within the project, from maintaining research integrity, protocol writing, recruitment, data collection and data entry.
