The Focused Ultrasound (“FUS”) Laboratory at Sunnybrook Research Institute is looking for a committed and motivated individual to fill the role of Research Engineer/Physicist (temporary full-time).

 

About the Focused Ultrasound Laboratory

Our group is the leading laboratory in the world in the development of transformative technology for non-invasive, image-guided surgery and targeted drug delivery using focused ultrasound. The technology being developed in our group will be used to treat benign or malignant tumours in the brain as well as a variety of neurological disorders. Many of our projects are conducted in close collaboration with medical device and pharmaceutical companies.

 

The Position

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to develop a professional-grade medical system for a transcranial focused-ultrasound therapy system.

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Physics or Engineering
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques
  • Aptitude to conceptualize design solutions and communicate them to the team for manufacturing
  • Experience in developing and executing performance test on products, so as to improve performance quality and consistency
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
  • Passion to contribute to cutting-edge medical device development

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Proficiency with hands-on work
  • Experience with MATLAB programming and ability to carry out data analyses using written scripts
  • Experience or working knowledge of testing devices, defining test strategy, designing and developing test setups

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Initial prototype implementation, testing, and documentation
  • Assist build of prototype assemblies to test functionality, analyze the ease of assembly and troubleshoot as necessary
  • Work within a continuous improvement framework to improve system designs, with an emphasis on system reliability
  • Assist in bench top experiments to test software and hardware, document testing procedures and summarize results
  • Compare numerical and experimental results and review them with the research team
  • Conduct experiments and write reports and papers
