Summary of Duties
The Senior Technologist – Flow Cytometry will provide strong leadership and subject matter expertise for the technical procedures and services in a clinical flow cytometry laboratory. Works with medical staff, management, peers, and internal and external users to ensure quality patient care services are maintained. 
Provides technical expertise in ten and twelve colour analyses of hematolymphoid neoplasias and is responsible to the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory for clinical, research, and development issues. 

 

Reporting to the Manager, in collaboration with the Supervisor and Charge Technologist, the Senior Technologist will also be responsible for the following:
•    Providing technical expertise and support
•    Participating in research activities and special projects
•    Contributing to departmental processes such as performance appraisals, interviews, and staff scheduling
•    Organizing workflow and delegating responsibilities as required 
•    Ensuring effective communication is maintained with all levels of medical, technical staff, and management
•    Supporting and assisting with staff activities to enhance safe practice and quality improvement and team building in the lab 
•    Providing leadership through mentorship and sharing of expertise
•    Generating daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required

 

Qualifications/Skills
•    Medical Laboratory Technologist - required
•    Current membership in good standing with CMLTO - required
•    3-5 years recent flow cytometry experience in an academic hospital setting - preferred
•    Bachelor of Science degree - preferred
•    Experience in ten and twelve colour analyses of haematological malignancies - preferred
•    Demonstrates sound knowledge base in relevant related disciplines 
•    Demonstrates leadership and team building skills 
•    Knowledge of adult education principles
•    Knowledge of continuous quality improvement and total quality management techniques and principles
•    Demonstrates effective problem solving and decision making practices
•    Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels and in all disciplines
•    Required to work in a dynamic, busy environment and must be able to demonstrate adaptability and flexibility
•    Previous experience with Sunquest and/or CoPath an asset
•    Previous experience in test validation/development an asset
•    Proficient in MS Office - Excel, Word, Power Point and Database - required
•    Strong time-management, organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment
•    Sound knowledge & understanding of Laboratory Practices in Ontario and ACD
•    Knowledgeable in Canadian and international guidelines and standards for Flow Cytometry
