JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Learning for All Facilitator

REPORTS TO: Learning for All System Principal

LOCATION: Red Rock Learning Center or District Location

SUMMARY:

As a key member of the Multidisciplinary team, the Special Education Facilitator will work collaboratively with educators and principals to positively contribute to the achievement, well-being and equity of students with special education needs throughout the Superior-Greenstone District School Board region in compliance with regulations, acts and policies of Superior-Greenstone District School Board.

RESPONSIBILITIES (This is not an exhaustive list)

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support programming for students with special education needs.

Supports schools on the implementation of Learning for All JK-12 and Growing Success.

Working closely with the Learning for All System Principal to assist with Special Education in the various schools.

Provide Capacity Building through modelling, facilitating and collaborating with educators and principals on a regular basis

Assist in planning, supporting and creating professional development to elementary and secondary school teams, Teachers and Educational Assistants throughout the district.

Provide staff development opportunities in all areas of special education including universal design, differentiated instruction and assistive technology.

Facilitate Regulation 181/98 at the elementary and secondary levels.

Educate and apply the knowledge from the Special Education Policy and Resource Guide.

Assist with the New Teacher Induction program.

Liaise with other professionals, such as behaviour consultants, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychology, and physicians.

Collect data at the school and system levels including, but not limited to, effectiveness of special education programs and interventions, student outcomes in relation to goals, etc.

Use and access Student Information System as well as the Special Programs module as needed to support school teams.

Completion of required documents - Special Incidence Portion applications, Special Equipment Application claims, IPRC notes, case conference notes, etc.

Attends meetings - initial IPRC meetings, case conferences, review IPRC meetings, community agency meetings as required, and student transition meetings.

Supports school Special Education Teachers with school specific concerns and issues.

Assists in the completion and monitoring of assessments.

Supports EA Professional Development

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skill

Education/Experience

Hold Ontario Teacher’s Certificate in good standing

Additional Qualifications in Special Education

Minimum of 5 years teaching experience

Extensive Practical teaching experience in working with a variety of students who are deemed exceptional

Have a strong working knowledge of diagnostic approaches, assessment, differentiated instruction, Universal Design for learning and assistive technology in special education

Proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft applications, e-mail, cloud-based applications and other platforms

Additional Competencies/Skills

Have the ability to facilitate and lead learning.

Be self-motivated and be able to provide staff development, organization and delivery in all areas of special education including universal design, differentiated instruction and assistive technology.

Open to learning, sharing ideas and accepting feedback.

Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage timelines.

Effectively communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders.

Display excellent interpersonal skills while building positive relationships.

Quality of work meets a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.

Take the initiative and make decisions based on judgement, facts and alternatives.

Foster collaborative relationships and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

EFFORT

Work does not require extended periods of effort.

There is sufficient variety of work including the opportunity to sit, stand, and walk.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most working hours are in a normal indoor working environment.

Occasionally exposed to difficult or demanding clientele.

Regular travel required to the various schools within the described region.

Will work out of the Red Rock Learning Center or the Marathon Board Office depending on candidate and will be working in schools on a regular basis throughout the board.
