Job Description:

Position Overview:
Scarborough Health Network is seeking a high-energy and dynamic healthcare leader to join its team in an exciting opportunity to serve as Practice Leader. The practice leader provides leadership, direction, and professional oversight in a key strategic and clinical practice leadership role. This position works closely with the Manager, Professional Practice and reports directly to the Director, Professional Practice. As an integral Professional Practice Leadership Team member, the practice leader is an innovative clinical expert with leadership, clinical care and academic responsibilities.


Responsibilities:
• Overseeing and supervising clinical and professional practice and students
• Developing and supporting professional expertise in patient care and education, providing leadership and consultation
• Acting as a resource for staff and other departments within the organization
• Mentoring and coaching,
• Monitoring performance and workload,
• Ensuring the development of quality staff and student orientation and educational programs,
• Promoting the profession with external partners,
• Support Health Human Resources initiatives
• Support RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) activities
• Internal and external committees as a member or lead
• Manager on-call responsibilities
With a focus on quality and patient safety, the practice ensures that the daily delivery of service is provided according to the highest professional practice standards and regulatory requirements and that all aspects of service are fully integrated to meet the needs of those we serve.
The practice leader, in collaboration with managers, directors and other practice leaders, works closely with the teams to: develop and integrate professional standards, ensure the integration of patient-centred care into daily practice, and facilitate staff involvement in quality, education and research initiatives. The Practice Leader’s professional goals align with the strategic direction of SHN and the College of Nurses.


Requirements:
• Masters preparation in Nursing, Allied Health Discipline, or Education
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Allied Health Discipline or equivalent
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current BCLS
• Demonstrates recent clinical experience and expertise
• Completion of an Adult Learning Theory course or Certificate
• Demonstrates excellence in teaching, adult learning and facilitation skills
• Strong mentoring and leadership skills
• Demonstrates leadership skills, ability to mentor staff and facilitate program and staff development
• Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical-thinking skills
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
• Demonstrates an understanding of, and commitment to, SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety
• Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel cross-site


Asset:
• Current ACLS, GPA, and CPI Instructor status
• Experience with electronic documentation
• Experience with electronic learning management systems
• Ability to speak another language is an asset
• RNAO membership
