Job Description:

Position Overview:

The Senior Registered Technologist is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager with providing efficient and effective leadership of the Shared Hospital Laboratory. This position requires advance knowledge of Bacteriology and Molecular theories, methodologies, equipment, Laboratory Information Systems, for providing technical and functional guidance to the staff. The Senior Technologist will assist the manager in implementing approved policies and procedures and to foster a team-oriented approach. The Senior Technologist will work together with the Manager regarding staffing, technical and daily operational issues including quality management, training and education

Requirements:

  • Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO required)
  • Minimum 5 years of microbiology experience as an MLT
  • Advanced training in Quality Management Systems is an asset
  • Experience in writing standard operating procedures, policies and processes preferred
  • In depth knowledge of total lab automation and advanced knowledge of microbiology identification and susceptibilities methods.
  • Able to support validation or evaluation studies under the direction of the Microbiologist.
  • Ensures Quality assurance procedures are adhered to, addresses and responds to deficiencies promptly.
  • Demonstrate ability to learn new methodologies.
  • Must be capable of providing technical and theoretical support and guidance at an advanced level in microbiology to SHL staff
  • Demonstrated expertise at problem solving.
  • Supports and coordinates the education and training of MLT, MLA and Medical/clinical microbiology trainees.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory computer systems (EPIC preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skill.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrates values consistent with the hospital Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
  • Excellent work performance and attendance record.
