for Wolf Creek Public Schools

Duties to commence August 11, 2025



                Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) invites applications from experienced, dynamic and progressive leaders for the position of Director of Education Services, Indigenous Education and Reconciliation. As a member of the Education Services team, the Director supports a variety of key portfolio areas that support the division’s overall priority areas of Quality Teaching, Supporting All Students, and Collective Responsibility. This position is a system-level leadership position and will require the candidate to become a member of the College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS).

                Wolf Creek Public Schools serves approximately 7,500 students in 30 schools across the division with a workforce of approximately 900.



                About the Position

                The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the Education Services team in the following areas:

                  • Support the vision of building capacity throughout the organization in the area of Indigenous education and reconciliation.
                  • Support schools with actualizing their strategic plans in the area of Indigenous education and reconciliation.
                    • Provide support to school teams with planning for, and supporting the learning of, students and success for students in high school and beyond.
                      • Support the Education Services team with realizing their mandate of service and support to schools throughout the district in all areas of teaching and learning.

                        The candidate will be primarily responsible for supporting Indigenous education and reconciliation throughout the division. Primary responsibilities in these areas will include:

                          Advocacy of and for Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing and leadership for Indigenous student success.

                          Coordinate, lead, and build capacity with district teams, cohorts, and advisory groups to support the Teacher Quality Standard, Leadership Quality Standard, and Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard.

                          Provide direct support to administrators and school teams:

                          • Support school-based team meetings as required
                          • Support Ponoka schools with interventions for Indigenous students in the areas of academics, attendance, behavior, and transitions.

                          Provide Leadership and responsibility in the following areas:

                          • Indigenous Education Cohorts- Ponoka and Division-wide
                          • Elder programming and Elder Support Worker
                          • Indigenous Education Learning Supports Coach
                          • Indigenous Education Success Coaches

                            Work closely with administrators and school teams in the following areas :

                                  • Support teachers in the implementation of coordinated academic planning and support
                                  • Provide coaching support to meet Indigenous Education and Reconciliation programming needs
                                  • Coordinate professional development opportunities, cultural activities, and events that will enhance Indigenous cultural and programming support in schools

                                    Support community engagement opportunities

                                        • Chair Wisdom and Guidance Committee meetings
                                        • Support implementation of school and district engagement events

                                          Oversee the management of the Indigenous Education team and budget.



                                          The Candidate

                                          The successful candidate will have an exemplary background as a student-centered educator including the following qualifications:

                                                                • Evidence of fostering effective relationships with Elders and Indigenous communities
                                                                • Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching with at least 8 years of experience
                                                                • Experience and/or training in supporting the application of foundational knowledge about Indigenous education at the system level
                                                                • Experience in facilitating reconciliation at the school district level
                                                                • Completion of or working toward a Master's Degree would be an asset
                                                                • Previous or current school leadership experience would be an asset
                                                                • Highly skilled in building positive working relationships
                                                                • Strong work ethic
                                                                • Commitment to career-long professional learning and reflective practice
                                                                • Evidence of collaborative approach to problem-solving
                                                                • Knowledge of support and services within the four nations of Maskwacis would be an asset.

                                                                The successful candidate must qualify for an Alberta teaching certificate.
