Role
The LSS Teacher works with families, the LSS vice principal, educational assistants, community support professionals, and administrative staff to ensure the implementation of programs for K-12 students with special educational needs, and/or learning assistance.
Responsibilities
Maintain knowledge and access to resources and strategies to assist students with special needs and maintain knowledge of curriculum requirements, resources and activities.
Oversee educational assistants (EAs)
Ensure weekly dialogue with parents and/or students.
Monitor and evaluate student progress.
Complete with all administrative requirements such as student lists (e.g. maintaining student lists)
Duties
Coordinates assessments necessary to identify students’ specific educational needs.
Maintains all documentation to ensure that students qualify for Ministry of Education Special Needs funding
Develops and updates Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and student learning plans (SLPs)
Assists parents and educational assistants with access to services available to support the delivery of the IEP.
Instruction
Instructs EAs in the implementation of the IEPs and/or SLPs.
Sets learning standards for each student in collaboration with the parents, students, and other TLA teachers and/or support staff as needed.
Facilitates, individually or in conjunction with other TLA teachers, periodic group activities such as group lessons, discussions, field trips, workshops, guest presenters, etc., in person and/or through technological means.
Assists students to access paper-based and online learning resources, including TLA teacher-specialist support.
