Construction Coordinator
Trillium Lakelands District School Board invites applications for the position of Construction Coordinator.

Salary: Band 5, Step 1 ($82,866)
Hours: 35 hours per week

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) encompasses the municipalities of the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County, and the District Municipality of Muskoka. With approximately 16,000 students, TLDSB has 40 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, and six Adult and Alternate Education Centres.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Facility Services, the incumbent will be responsible to manage all phases of new school construction, alterations/additions, building renewal/retrofits and major maintenance projects from “concept to classroom”.
Overall the incumbent in this position will contribute to student achievement and the by ensuring that new schools are properly constructed, existing schools and worksites are properly altered and retrofitted to ensure safe learning and working spaces for students and staff.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Project Management
- evaluate and recommend various proponent submissions utilizing prescribed evaluation matrices
- manage multiple projects simultaneously with a cost range of $1,000 to one million dollars
- oversee retrofit and energy conservation projects
- perform contract administration including review of schedules, progress draws, changes and closeout documents
- monitor project progress, report findings and track projected costs
- monitor, coordinate and evaluate external architectural and engineering services
- liaise between construction parties, consultants, contractors, board staff and regulatory officials
- review / approve invoices or certificates of payment within prescribed financial limits
- evaluate, recommend and authorize within prescribed limits change orders or change directives impacting the project costs
Long Range Planning and Records Management
- develop long range plans for future implementation of consistent system wide standards (e.g. tile size and type)
- evaluate school renewal needs and develop cost effective options in collaboration with other team members
- ensure asset and drawing database information is updated at completion of projects
- develop and maintain standards manuals for equipment and building product and systems used in construction and facility renewal projects
- develop accurate cost estimates for contemplated projects
- prepare documents for procurement of contract services
- works with purchasing department to select appropriate products to withstand use in a school setting
- 2 year Community College Diploma preferably in a related discipline (Architectural Technician, Construction Technician, Engineering Technician)
- 2 years experience in related discipline preferably within the Education, Municipal, Post Secondary or Hospital Sector.
- a minimum of 2 years of experience as a project team leader in the institutional building construction and renovation industry
- working knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical systems and all facets of building science
- working knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, TSSA Regulations, Playground Guidelines as well as relevant municipal regulations and bylaws
- working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Guidelines
- working knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- proven ability to review and prepare contract documents for a variety of building and site related projects
- strong analytical skills and the ability to implement cost effective solutions
- strong computer skills
- knowledge of facility and project management software is considered an asset
- initiative and self-confidence necessary to function in a strong team-based environment
- current and maintained valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Primarily in an office working environment, with the requirement to be on site at schools to manage building projects
- Need to be aware of surroundings and give attention to details
