Position Title / Rank: Assistant Professor of Accounting
Department: Management
Position Description:

The Department of Management (DoM) in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Lang) at the University of Guelph is seeking applications for a tenure track position in accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor (teaching-intensive). We are looking for exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to student engagement, transformative pedagogy, impactful scholarship, and meaningful community involvement.

The anticipated start date for this appointment is May 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025. The role's effort distribution is expected to be 60% teaching, 10% scholarship, and 30% service.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree and a Canadian CPA designation in good standing.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching accounting at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Proven experience in curriculum and program development for post-secondary accounting or related programs.
  • Significant experience advising students at the post-secondary level.
  • Significant professional experience in assurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching assurance courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • More than five years of curriculum and program development experience across multiple delivery methods (in-person, online, hybrid)
  • Proven experience collaborating with Canadian CPA professional bodies regarding the CPA qualification process
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

The Department of Management has over 30 faculty members and responsibility for three majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program - Accounting, Management and Sports Management. The Department offers a Master of Professional Accounting, MSc in Management, Master of Project Management, and an undergraduate leadership certificate. It contributes to Lang’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management. Faculty members are committed to Lang’s vision of “being and developing leaders for a sustainable world” and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, business policy/strategy, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, financial management, human resource management, leadership, organizational behaviour, and project management. The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Guelph’s Business School). Formed in 2006, the Lang School is the youngest college at the University of Guelph but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled.
