General Purpose

The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Navigator supports Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) services by managing referrals, conducting trauma-informed intakes, and leading campus-wide training initiatives. This role assesses risk, complexity, and acute needs, connecting students to appropriate supports both within and beyond the SGBV Office. The Navigator ensures equitable caseload distribution for Support Coordinators while addressing the rising demand for training and consultations among students, staff, and faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Navigator will respond to SGBV referrals within 24-48 hours, conducting trauma-informed intakes to evaluate risk and determine support needs. They will assign cases to Support Coordinators to balance workloads and provide immediate interventions, including referrals to health services, safety offices, and community resources. They will offer tailored support to students through in-person, phone, or online interactions.

The Navigator will design and deliver SGBV prevention and disclosure-response training for students, staff, and faculty, ensuring the content meets the needs of diverse audiences. They will collaborate with the Wellness Education and Promotion Centre to align educational initiatives and identify opportunities for joint efforts. Training content will be regularly updated to reflect best practices and emerging trends.

The Navigator will prepare statistical reports to analyze trends and identify systemic issues, contributing to annual reports and strategic planning. They will develop outreach materials, including website and social media content, to raise awareness of SGBV services. Additionally, they will participate in team planning, quality improvement, and committee meetings to advance departmental objectives.

To support strategic goals and reporting requirements, the Navigator will collect and track outcomes, working closely with colleagues to ensure the department meets its objectives.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a degree in social work, psychology, public health, or a related field and 3 years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in trauma-informed care and supporting individuals affected by SGBV is required. Strong case management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to design and deliver training for diverse groups. Familiarity with SGBV trends, prevention strategies, and disclosure management is also necessary.
