Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join the Critical Care, Burns, Trauma and High Acuity teams at Vancouver General Hospital, working as a Clinical Resource Specialist. Apply today to join our team!

As an Occupational Therapist with VCH you will:

  • Work in a team based environment and be responsible and accountable for the provision of clinical or technical specialist services to other Occupational Therapists through the delegated provision of formal clinical or technical mentorship, consultation and advisory services to own or other organizations within a specialized area of the profession.
  • Provide specialised therapeutic interventions and direct care to designated clients/residents less than the majority of time and as needed, to maintain clinical currency and best practice in the speciality area of the profession.
  • As delegated by the Manager, support the Supervisor, Practice Leader and Educator and participate in program development and evaluation, focusing on mentorship as well as supporting complex case education services in a specialized area of the profession.
  • Consult, confer, and collaborate with supervisor, team members and the Practice Leader in promotion of continuous quality improvement, implementation of interdisciplinary research, and in supporting activities required for progressive educational and clinical practice programs.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Suggested membership with the Canadian Association of OT (CAOT).
  • Additional five (5) years of recent, related advanced theory, complex case knowledge and experience in the Critical Care, High Acuity, Burns and Trauma specialty areas of practice, including one (1) year's experience utilizing knowledge translation skills, mentoring and coaching others to build competencies in the specialty area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the standards and guidelines established by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and the Canadian Association of OT.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation as pertaining to occupational therapy practice.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area(s).
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical practice related to treatment and care of the designated patient/client population.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a culturally safe and respectful manner, with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and patients/clients and their circle of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research methodology and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, resource, motivator and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate techniques and facilitate learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking in approach to teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Skill in the use of equipment and in techniques appropriate to designated clinical area.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
