The Opportunity

Responsible for helping prevent incidents in the workplace, promote a positive H&S culture and ensuring that employees adheer to the Wajax EH&S program requirements. Support the operations to own and to drive the safety activities such that safety becomes a habit.

The Role

  • Actively promote and demonstrate a “Safety First” attitude

COACHING/LEADER SUPPORT

  • Maintain regular contact with all branches; walk shops with local leadership to identify non-conformances & deficiencies as well as review changes in personnel with local Leadership
  • Act as SME; answer all safety related inquiries
  • Provide updates on any new EHS programs / initiatives (i.e., EH&S Manual, Safety Talk, APB) any regulatory requirements and assist in developing or revising any procedures, forms, safety talks, etc. as requested

INCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS

  • Review all incident reports immediately and work with branch to ensure incidents are managed effectively
  • Support/guide branch with conducting proper accident/incident investigations and identifying the root cause
  • Ensure thorough investigations are conducted for all non-recordables and near misses incidents
  • Verify the causes identified in EHS software and the corresponding correctives actions address the risk
  • Ensure incidents are actively reviewed and closed after all corrective actions are complete are not left in the "Review"stage more than 48 hours

The Candidate

Education: Occupational Health & Safety Certificate (or equivalent accreditation preferable).

Work Experience: 4-5 years

Knowledge: Competent in common software programs such as Microsoft Office; ability to learn other software as needed; strong knowledge of current relevant OHS Codes, legislation, industry standards; previous Workers Compensation claims management experience an asset; experience in delivering training and facilitating meetings an asset; experience in Construction and/or Mining and/or heavy equipment an asset; standard First Aid certification; advanced First Aid certificate would be an asset; has obtained or working towards obtaining CRSP designation, or other related accreditations (e.g.- CSO) is an asset.
