Long term occasional teachers in an assignment greater than eighty (80) instructional days or four (4) months in duration, are eligible for up to five (5) full unpaid days per school year. Long term occasional teachers in an assignment greater than thirty (30) instructional days but less than eighty (80) instructional days in duration will be eligible to take up to one (1) unpaid day during the term of their assignment. Please note that such days will not be granted to extend the December or March break and cannot be split into partial days. These days must be requested through Human Resources Services according to the timelines outlined in the Collective Agreement. Itinerant Teacher Responsibilities: Under the direction of the System Administrator of Special EducationProvide Services to students and schools as assigned by the System Administrator of Special Education,As a member of Learning Support Services, work in support of the WRDSBs Board Improvement and Equity Plan and the WRDSBs Multi-Year Strategic PlanSupporting the Waterloo Region District School Boards Conditions for learning through a lens of Human Rights and Equity:Pedagogy and AssessmentRelationshipsEnvironmentFollowing the Student Support Process, supporting student referrals to special education servicesPromoting effective learning through Universal Design and Differentiated Instruction to address the WRDSB Strategic Plan and Board Equity and Improvement PlanSupporting the special education needs of students across the Waterloo Region District School BoardsSupporting staff and schools through the implementation of effective teaching and learning practices that support student learning and achievementSupporting school staff in implementation of evidence based teaching and learning practices and programming for students with special education needsCollaboration with Learning Support Services to promote student learning and achievementApply professional and experience to promote student learning using appropriate pedagogy, assessment and evaluation, resources and technology in planning for a responding to the individual needs of students within the scope of the responsibilities as a teacherContinually refine their professional practice through ongoing inquiry, dialogue and reflection.Role Based Responsibilities may also include: Vision Itinerant TeacherSupporting school staff in implementation of evidence based teaching and learning practices and programming for students with special education needsSupporting Students utilizing the Tiered Structure of Support model and the WRDSBs Student Support ProcessThrough the Student Support Process, provide consultation to schools regarding the visual needs of the studentWork alongside school staff, the In-School Support Team and where appropriate, the schools Multidisciplinary team to understanding of the students visual needsWork alongside staff to support student inclusion practices, through a culturally relevant and responsive (CRRP) lens, that allow students to fully access the curriculumAssist with developing the IEP and the implementation of accommodations to support student learning and achievementFacilitate the acquisition and adaptation of alternative format curricular materialsThrough the Special Education Schools Liaison Consultant, submit documentation for Specialized Equipment Amount (SEA) claims when recommended and determined to be essential for the studentProvide direct instruction of Alternative Program for the Blind/Low Vision students (e.g. braille, adaptive technology, self-advocacy)Work alongside the special education team at the school to Coordinate essential services for student (e.g. Orientation and Mobility, Independent Living Skills)Following the Student Support Process, work alongside school staff and administration, liaise with community agenciesWorking alongside school staff and Central Special Education Services, facilitate the transition of students new to and within WRDSBDuties as assigned and subject to revision based on system and/or Ministry of Education directionWork Location and Schedules Itinerant teachers are expected to provide services to schools throughout the Waterloo Region District School BoardItinerant teachers are expected to provide service to schools on a daily basisIn order to best serve the learning needs of students and support school staff, itinerant teachers are expected to work in a maximum of 2-3 schools per dayItinerant teachers are expected to utilize their google calendar to communicate their daily schedule to the System Administrator of Special EducationPlanning TimeItinerant teachers receive 240 minutes (for full time schedules) of planning time per week Planning time is expected to be taken at the school site the itinerant teacher is working at during the day Commitment to Equity The Waterloo Region District School Board is committed to equity in employment.
