Communications Team Lead

FULL-TIME - PERMANENT

Winnipeg School Division is dedicated to fostering strong relationships within our community. Our communications focus is to engage, consult, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders to drive positive change and promote joy, love, and rigour throughout our school communities. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Communications to lead our efforts in community engagement, public relations, and strategic communication campaigns.

The Communications Team Lead will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to enhance our organization's responsiveness, focus, and reputation. This role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for community engagement and consultation, as well as expertise in public relations and leveraging technology to reach diverse audiences.

The Communications Team Lead's responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Community Engagement: Work with the Senior Administration Team to develop and implement strategies to engage with community members, stakeholders, and partners. Facilitate community consultation processes to gather input and feedback on key initiatives.

Public Relations: Work with the Senior Administration Team on all public relations activities, including media relations, press releases, and crisis communications.

Strategic Communication Campaigns: Work with the Senior Administration Team to design and execute integrated communication campaigns to promote the organization’s goals and initiatives. Utilize data-driven insights to measure and optimize campaign effectiveness. Develop powerful written pieces to communicate the amazing things that happen in our schools.

Leveraging Technology: Employ digital tools and platforms to enhance communication efforts. Manage the organization’s online presence, including websites, social media, and other digital channels.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism and/or community engagement.

Proven track record of successful community engagement and consultation initiatives.

Strong understanding of strategic communication planning and execution.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in using technology and digital tools for communication purposes.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Innovative mindset with a passion for leveraging technology in communication.

High level of integrity and professionalism.

Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.

Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a deep understanding and commitment to answering the Calls to Action in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report
